For a while now, we have been trying out group interviews as part of our selection process.

Being a Recruitment Consultant is all about how you sell yourself and opportunities, and sometimes it is very difficult so spot the personalities we look for from a CV.

The Group Interview format that we have been using is a mix of activities designed to highlight sales and communication skills.  We have learned a lot about people in these sessions, and feedback tells us that people actually enjoy coming and sometimes learn something about themselves.

We have had some funny moments to, as you can imagine, but so far - we have been pretty successful , and met a lot ofnice people - although have yet to make our first hire from this process, so I am keen to prove that this method of selection works.

On the subject of hiring, we have just hired a couple of new people for the UK - Jenny and Kevin, both doing well so far ! - also had Fredrik join us in the Norway, and Ozan in Singapore !

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the recruitment process?

We accept application by cv and covering letter. After your cv has been received we will screen your cv, and then, assuming you are successful call you to arrange a telephone interview. If you are successful at this stage, we will then arrange for you to complete a psychometric profile, and then meet with us for face to face interviews.

How should I prepare for an interview?

The best advice for attending an interview is to be yourself. Our ethos is to recruit people for who they are, and what they bring to the company. Read up on us, find out who will be interviewing you. Be on time, well dressed, and ready for business. Bring with you only what you need, and its really good to bring a pad and pen to take some notes.

What do you look for?

Personality is the key. Experience is always a great head start, but if you are energetic, tenacious, hardworking, target focused, and fun, then that is a few points checked off of our list. Ability to sell is also a massive part of the role of a consultant, in addition to an ability to build rapport, relationships with people from any part of the world.

Where are you based?

In Southampton, we are fortunate to have state-of-the-art offices in Ocean Vilage. It offers great views of the marina and a perfect working environment. We also have waterfront offices in Fort Lauderdale, near Miami in the USA, and City centre offices in Oslo, Norway and Singapore.

How do I apply?

Call us on 02380 334444, or email your cv and covering letter to amyers@faststream.co.uk.

Who will interview me?

Usually Adam Myers, our internal recruiter conducts initial phone interview and first face to face interviews. From then on, Adam, the divisional managers and the directors become involved in the next stages.

Can I transfer to overseas offices?

All internal vacancies are advertised within the organisation before we advertise externally. Opportunities in our overseas offices are included in these vacancies, and should you meet the appropriate criteria, it can be a possibility.

How often do you recruit ?

We have a really challenging growth plan for the next few years, and are looking to grow our team massively over this time. With this in mind, we are currently always recruiting. We are really proud of a very low turnover in staff, therefore most of our hiring is focused on our growth.

How can I progress in the organisation ?

The first step for everyone is to "earn their stripes" as a consultant. The next step is to move into the Senior Consultant status, which is awarded on merit and includes a salary review, company car or allowance and more holiday. Following this, we have opportunities to manage teams, or simply work to the top of your game as a consultant as an Executive Consultant. Whichever route you choose, you will receive regular feedback and support to help you reach your potential.

What tips can you give me ?

Be prepared, know your stuff, be yourself. The most successful interviews lately have been with candidates who really know how to sell, and understand our markets and our company. Also ask questions - we want to you be informed about everything so dont be shy !
