Rachel Farndell our Director of People & Quality recently presented 'Interview Skills for Candidates' to year 3 students at Southampton Solent University. It's all about getting the job you want so here are the key points:
1. Getting the Right Interview: Your CV needs to be clear, concise, professional and interesting. You need to sell yourself, not just tell the facts. You need to target jobs that meet your strengths. Accompany your CV with a covering email or letter and then follow up by phone.
2. Before the Interview: Be flexible, do your homework on the company. Be prepared with questions. Dress to impress - be suited and booted. Plan your journey and do a dummy run in traffic if needed.
3. At the Interview - Your Chance to Shine: First impressions count so be positive, be aware of your body language, listen to learn, be positive, sell yourself and ask your prepared questions.
4. After the Interview - Follow Up: This is one of the most important things that can make you stand out from the rest. Send an email to thank them for seeing you and ask any further questions. Be prepared for a response - negative or positive. Attend other interviews in the meantime and stay positive.
Good luck!
